In the beginning, John McCain created Barack Obama...

Tue Aug 05, 2008 at 10:02:11 AM PDT

I came across this comment on WAPO's site, and had to publish it here for the community. :-) Genius cannot be denied, patriot76. Thank you!

In the beginning John McCain created Barack Obama. And darkness was upon the face of Obama, for McCain had altered the face of Obama. And McCain said, Let there be Deceit and there was Deceit. And McCain saw the Deceit, that it was good: and McCain divided the Deceit from the Truth. And McCain called Obama "deceit," and Himself he called Truth. And McCain said, Let there be Deceit in the midst of the people, and let Obama be Deceit and McCain the Truth. And McCain made the Commercial, and divided the people from the Truth, for Deceit was in His campaign: and it was so....

Electronic Voting Machine Hearing Today (Wed)

Tue Jul 29, 2008 at 06:16:00 AM PDT

Yesterday, I posted a diary that is very time sensitive, but got little attention; Senate hearings will be held tomorrow (Wednesday). I am reposting the diary today so that it has a chance of being picked up on radar. I apologize for breaking the rules but this is one of those times when doing so is actually conscienable and arguably an issue of national security. There is too much at stake to not repost--over one-third of all states in the union, and 213 out of the 270 vote majority needed to win the Presidency will not be fully auditable under the current bill.

If you care about the integrity of the electoral process, I need you to (1) rec this diary to the top and (2) contact your Senator today or tomorrow regarding Bill S.3212, the "Bipartisan Electronic Voting Reform Act of 2008" introduced by Senators Feinstein and Bennett.

With only 98 days till the election, this could be the most important action you take to protect your vote (and those of your neighbors).

*URGENT ACTION NEEDED* -- "Bipartisan Electronic Voting Reform Act" (S.3212)

Mon Jul 28, 2008 at 09:02:25 AM PDT

If you care about the integrity of the electoral process, I need you to (1) rec this diary to the top and (2) contact your Senator today or tomorrow regarding Bill S.3212, the "Bipartisan Electronic Voting Reform Act of 2008" introduced by Senators Feinstein and Bennett.

With only 100 days till the election, this could be the most important action you take to protect your vote (and those of your neighbors).

Here is how the team at Verified Voting described things:

Here is what's happening. This Wednesday, the U.S. Senate will hold hearings on S.3212, a bill aimed at providing independent verification of ballots cast on electronic voting machines. That's a laudable goal, but S.3212 gets it wrong - very wrong.

S.3212 would allow electronic "verification" of votes cast on electronic voting machines. If S.3212 becomes law, elections in many states would still depend on the trustworthiness of computer software. This bill also fails to require hand audits of federal election results, and contains other measures that could set back years of progress toward transparent and trustworthy elections.

WANTED Progressive Framings: (1) Health Care

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 12:49:21 PM PDT

For far too long, Liberals have abrogated their responsibility in framing important issues for consumption by the voting public. This diary series, which I have entitled WANTED Progressive Framings, is intended to arm progressives with memes that can be inserted into our social dialog.

I highly suggest that bloggers, op-ed writers, and talking heads begin adopting similar memes for the pending battles.

This first diary addresses the issue of MANAGED HEALTH CARE.

MSM Listing -- Google Doc !!!

Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 11:21:53 AM PDT

I took a list of media outlets posted in a comment by ArtSchmart (with special thanks to Stroszek) in this diary, expanded the list by adding some shows that were not on the list, and then made a Google Doc of it.

You can find the document here:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/...

This will allow people to copy and paste the information into their own copy of Excel, which can then be used to do a "Mail Merge" in Microsoft Word.

This function allows the user to write one letter, and then place the name and address field into position, so that Word can make 50 letters almost instantly. It is a function that administrative assistants use to write lots of letters to applicants for jobs, for example.

Republican quotes about McCain

Mon Jul 14, 2008 at 02:34:26 PM PDT

I came across these in a comment on a blog and kept them for my own reading enjoyment.  While I do not remember the original blog anymore, I think that these comments deserve some attention nonetheless.

Here are some thoughts by fellow Republicants about the party's presumptive nominee, John McCain.

"His temper would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, that should disqualify him." - Former Senator Bob Smith, R-NH

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic." - Senator Thad Cochran, R-MS

"I decided I didn't want this guy anywhere near a trigger." - Senator Pete Domenici, R-NM

"There's nothing redeeming about John McCain...he's a hypocrite." - Former House GOP Whip Tom DeLay

"He is a vicious person. They so disliked him that they wouldn't support him." - Former Representative Charles LeBoutillier, R-NY

An Open Letter to Michelle Obama

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 03:27:59 PM PDT

I came across this post by a reader on TalkingPointsMemo, and I thought it needed a larger audience....

Dear Ms. Obama:

My granddaughter asked me to take her to see you today at the Women's Forum in Kansas City!  She's a 12 year old, bi-racial, child of a single FATHER.  (Sometimes unfortunately, it's not the father's that are missing in thier children's life.)   We didn't have a ticket to get in.   It didn't matter to her.   She just wanted the chance to see you in person.  So we went.

Can't You Trust Him?

Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 07:16:56 AM PDT

I have been reading all the rants about Obama's decision to support FISA, and I wanted to comment on why I think he is doing what he is doing.

From the day he started his campaign, Obama has insisted that the Republicants have taken their eye off the ball in terms of keeping America safe. He has ridden the Republicants on the fact that they pulled military resources away from Afghanistan (where Al Qaeda is located) in order to play soldier in Iraq.

In my opinion, Obama is trying to keep a consistent position that is (1) anti-Iraq-blunder and (2) pro-get-the-terrorists. He cannot do that without FISA.

Where TF is Obama?

Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 06:24:19 AM PDT

I am so angry right now, I might start breaking things. I just watched Bush say that the War Appropriations Bill was approved (without timelines) and that the FISA Bill was approved (with full immunity to the telecoms).

WTF?

Where is Obama? His people say that he is looking at the FISA document, but it does no one any good if the Senate pushes it through.

Where is Dodd as well?

What the hell is happening?!?

It looks like I was right. Dems really are spineless cowards.

The Conservative Nanny State

Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 01:44:04 PM PDT

In case you have not heard, Former House Republican Leader Tom Delay has said, "And if McCain does not define him [Obama] as what he is — hey, I have said publicly, and I will again, that unless he proves me wrong, he is a Marxist." Delay made these remarks on the Mike Gallagher radio show yesterday (Thursday, June 5, 2008).

Perusing the responses to this story on The Hill's blog, it seems that many Americans need a primer on how it is the wealthy who have already created a "Marxist" state, draining money from the working poor and middle-class and funneling it UPWARD to the wealthy.

BREAKING: 1 million REGISTRATIONS purged in IN !

Mon May 05, 2008 at 10:33:44 AM PDT

Just saw this on blackboxvoting.org and had to get it out there!

5-4-08: One million purged - The Incredible Disappearing Indiana Voter Rolls
In April 2008 when Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita announced the release of "record high" voter registration rolls, with 4.3 million voters set to vote in the Tuesday May 6 primary, he didn't mention that a whopping 1,134,427 voter registrations have been cancelled.

One quarter-million of them come from just two northwestern Indiana counties: Lake and Porter. Lake County reports purging 137,164 voters and neighboring Porter County cancelled out 124,958 voters.

Lake County has one of the heaviest concentrations of African-American voters that you'll find anywhere in the USA. (snip) Nearby Porter County, the home of Valparaiso, is 95% white and went solidly for Bush in the 2004 election. It also has a lot of college kids.

"Dignity Promotion". Not "Democracy Promotion".

Sun May 04, 2008 at 05:12:53 PM PDT

Obama's supposedly "poor performance" in the ABC Debate was not poor at all, despite what the MSM says.

I believe it was a chance for the American people to reflect on the "Politics of Divisiveness" versus the "Politics of Dignity."

The more I watch Obama, the more I feel that "Dignity Promotion" will be a foundational piece of his administration, both in domestic policy and foreign policy.

Another Townhall Question for Hillary

Fri May 02, 2008 at 05:55:24 AM PDT

When you were asked about your thoughts about Rev Wright, you said, "I would have not been able to stay in the church" and "One's choice of church and pastor is rooted in what one believes is what you're seeking in church and what kind of, you know, fellowship you find in church."

If Barack Obama had been asked about Monica Lewinksy scandal, would it have been appropriate for him to say, "I would not have been able to stay in that marriage"?

Wouldn't you have considered that completely inappropriate, slimey, and downright mean?

How is your comment about Wright different?

But why did she stay so long?

Thu May 01, 2008 at 05:07:45 AM PDT

Even though Obama has irrevocably rejected, denounced and cut off all ties with his former paster, it is still not enough for some people.

Critics, such as Elizabeth Hasselbeck of The View, simply keep harping that "he sat in the pews for 20 years...."

:sigh:

Neither Hillary supporters nor McCain supporters should like where this is going....

"Won't Get Fooled Again" -- New Obama Message

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 06:57:47 AM PDT

It is clear that Obama is frustrated with how the media and his rivals are focusing efforts on things unrelated to the plight of the American people.

It is vital that Obama and his surrogates reset his message. That message should be simple and repeated ad nauseum.

Every time Obama or a surrogate is asked to comment on Wright, or Ayers, or flag pins, or whatever distraction the media or Clinton/McCain can find, the answer must simply be: "We Won't Get Fooled Again."

Where are the Progressive 527s?

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 01:21:21 PM PDT

If anyone knows any Progressive 527s who plan to aggressively go after McCain in the general election, please post the information in your comments to this thread.

The 527s are already preparing Swiftboating commercials on Obama (who will be the nominee), and we need to be ready to fight back. I am ready to pour real money and ideas into framing the debate.

We Need a President, Not Just a Commander-in-Chief

Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 05:59:09 AM PDT

I felt a need to pass this on. It is from one of my favorite news sources: www.truthout.org

I feel this argument should become part of Obama's narrative as he begins prep for the general election. Moreover, he can use it to frame "Patriotism" so that the "lapel pin people" start to understand things a little better.

Here is a choice snippet from the t r u t h o u t | Perspective piece by Joe Brewer and George Lakoff:

The president is not supposed to be commander in chief of Congress, nor commander in chief of the FBI or the Justice Department, nor commander in chief of the American people. (snip)

[T]he commander-in-chief role does not extend to most protections that a president should be concerned with - natural disaster (FEMA), health (FDA, health care agencies), environmental protection (EPA) etc. A president must address these domestic issues through leadership skills outside the realm of military action.

I'll Never Vote Democrat Again

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 10:29:32 PM PDT

Voting for me has always been a point of principle. I have always voted my conscience, and to date, the Democratic Party has represented that conscience.

The Dems have always represented the promise of America--the idea that everyone should be given an equal opportunity to succeed. The idea that we are all inherently good, and looking for the same thing--to put a roof over our heads, to live healthy lives, to feed and clothe our families, to enjoy our freedoms to express ourselves, to love those we love, and to share in our joys and our sorrows.

If the Superdelegates accept HRC's Rovian tactics, then I want to have nothing more to do with the party. Period.

The Party will no longer stand for what it used to stand for....
