Sidekick? P.O.W.!!

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 07:00:03 AM PDT

If I may, I'd like to tweak Devilstower's After Hours liveblog post just a tad:

Bam-Pow

A buddy of mine came up with the slight change.  Neither of us caught the FP piece in time to post this in the discussion, hence this drive by diary.  After all, if McCain is Robin, then a helluva lot of POWs!! should be tossed around.

How Senator McCaskill Votes

Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 10:39:28 AM PDT

The Netroots in Missouri has taken great issue with many of Sen Claire McCaskill's higher profile votes since we dumped money, time and effort into finally getting a Democratic Senator elected from Missouri.

Given her seeming intransience on fighting the FISA bill, is it any wonder some of us want to know more about her voting record on all the issues?

I'm using a broad database provided by the Washington Post but would love to see a site that has more detailed analysis.

I Just Saw the Oddest Thing

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 10:27:13 AM PDT

Everybody has seen at one time or another a "Calvin Pees" window decal.  Yunno, the unlicensed image of Bill Watterson's cartoon character Calvin urinating on something that the vehicle driver cares to "share" with the rest of the driving public.  The decals are less prevalent now than they were ten years ago but you still see the occasional new one.

Thirty minutes ago, I'm at the drive thru window of the bank.  A vehicle pulls up to the ATM slot next to me, conducts his bidness and off he goes.

What's he sporting in the back window?  Yup, a Calvin Pees decal.  Who is Calvin tinkling on?

Bush.

It's the rest that's the Oddest Thing.

Where are Top Comments?

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 08:22:55 PM PDT

I'm editing Diary Rescue tonight and am waiting on Top Comments to be posted.

Is there a problem or was some decision made to not do them tonight because of the primary?

Or perhaps you're waiting until all the PA precincts report in.

I'll yank this diary once I get an answer or see em posted.

Thanks.

The Industry's Take on McCain's Gas Tax Holiday

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 10:08:32 AM PDT

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has weighed in on McCain's proposed gas tax holiday.

They are not happy.

Sen McCaskill's reply to her Save AT&T Vote

Thu Mar 13, 2008 at 11:21:48 AM PDT

I, like I'm sure many of you did, submitted a respectful but forceful letter to the junior Senator from Missouri regarding her vote against the Dodd amendment that would have removed retroactive immunity against the telecoms for their part in President 24%'s warrantless domestic spying program.

I finally received a reply.  You won't like it.

By the way, apparently her office sent out a blanket reply today to anybody who had contacted her office regarding her FISA vote.  One diary has been posted already:

http://www.dailykos.com/...

I'm posting as well because I remain pissed off at someone we here in Missouri worked hard to get elected only to watch her cave on every major vote since 2007.

Netroots: We Will Come Around?

Tue Jan 08, 2008 at 09:25:18 AM PDT

The Washington Post today ran a piece on how the netroots isn't all onboard the Obama bandwagon. Written by Jose Antonio Vargas, it has the usual easy-to-write characterizations of the DFH's of the netroots, namely "re-engergize the left wing" and "brawling, highly partisan Net-roots movement". Okay, this isn't a rant about the standard lazyshit political reporters of the WaPo.

Instead, it's about a crack someone on the reporter's rolodex made about the netroots.  Peter Leyden, director of the New Politics Institute had this to say:

Markos and company are the warriors. And they are still in battle mode, and are very hardened about the capacity of the Republicans to truly play hardball. They have their guard up and are waiting for the counterpunch.  It's hard to get your head out of war mode. But they will come around."

Mr Leyden, in the best possible DFH Netroot way, lemme give you a succinct response to your thoughtful, WaPo vetted analysis of the netroots and it's developing relationship with Obama:

Fuck You.  Asshole.

Honor? Integrity? Where Art Thou?

Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 04:28:29 AM PDT

Hey y'all, remember back in 1999 and 2000 when then Governor Bush promised to restore "honor and integrity" to the White House?  Yunno, after all those years of trashy Clinton behavior that ran the gambit from private sexual activities to non-existent law breaking covering a variety of invented scandals all "uncovered" on your tax dollar?

President 24%'s track record in the honor and integrity department is let's say a little less than stellar. The latest travesty? Bringing a sure-fire Presidential Medal of Freeeeeedom winner, Paul Wolfowitz, back into the Executive Branch.  Not enough travesty?  How about destroying evidence of CIA torture? Or the Rove/Bolton Contempt of Congress citations?  Or the Justice Department's refusal to enforce those citations?

The hits, they just keep acomin'.

Let's take a walk down nightmare memory lane, shall we?

Lemme tell you a quick story about AmerenUE and how they stack up to our local electrical co-op.

Fri Nov 02, 2007 at 10:50:13 AM PDT

Blackwater Paid No Federal Taxes

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 12:05:29 PM PDT

The mercenaries looting the Federal Treasury know no limits.  Yesterday, good ole Henry Waxman stated that the Blackwater mercenary company paid no Social Security, Medicare or unemployment taxes.  The company has probably evaded paying tens of millions of dollars in federal taxes while trying to hide its practices.

How could Blackwater do this?  And what does it say about the massive outsourcing of war under this administration?  And why does Henry Waxman hate our mercenary armies so much?

Highway Searches: My Experience

Wed Sep 26, 2007 at 06:45:07 AM PDT

Have you ever been pulled over by a law enforcement officer on a flimsy pretext used as cover to search your vehicle?

I have.

Ever wondered how you'd react?

I have.

Ever looked back on the experience and wonder why you reacted the way you did?

I have.

Here is my story.

The Katrina Promise: Animal Rescue

Fri Aug 31, 2007 at 09:30:14 AM PDT

As we mark the second anniversary of one of the saddest episodes in our countries history, reflect on the appaling lack of leadership at the federal and local level in helping restore not only the most unique city in the United States but on the planet, and shake our heads at the continued ineptitude and political grandstanding that surround post-Katrina rebuilding efforts, let's take a look at one little item of hope in this island of disaster, our pets.

David Broder: Please Go Away

Fri Aug 17, 2007 at 10:47:32 AM PDT

The WaPo chats of late have been rather innocuous.  It seems the highly respected political reporters have finally figured out that anything they say that tips their hand regarding how they feel about blogs or about the criticism of their reporting will be jumped on.  As such, their daily "online discussions" have turned rather bland.  Ms Bland herself, Anne Kornblut, had a good example of such a waste of time earlier this week.

But not the "dean" of the Washington Press Corpse.  What follows speaks volumes not only about his refusal to admit he was wrong, but also speaks volumes about his ability to pundicate.

Fairfax Station, Va.: During the 2000 presidential campaign, you stated on one of the Sunday news shows, when asked, that you felt then-candidate Bush was smart enough to be President. After what has occurred in the past seven years, do you still believe that?

David S. Broder: Yes

One word that says everything about David Broder and the rest of the traditional media establishment.

The President's July 4th Message

Wed Jul 04, 2007 at 01:04:19 PM PDT

Here's a blurb from President 26%'s July 4th message to a unit of the WV Air National Guard:

"Our first Independence Day celebration took place in a midst of a war -- a bloody and difficult struggle that would not end for six more years before America finally secured her freedom. More than two decades later, it is hard to imagine the Revolutionary War coming out any other way."

Another brilliant example of simply how ignorant this man is.  So many mistakes, where to begin?

Hilton vs Coulter: Hilton "wins"

Thu Jun 28, 2007 at 09:47:06 AM PDT

Oi vey, it's come to this.  Over the last couple of evenings, if you were strapped down to a chair and told "you have to watch an hour of TV tonight and your only choices are Coulter on Tweety's show or Hilton on King's show", which would you choose?

Tom Shales of the Washington Post says it best:

To look at the spectacle from yet another perspective, watching Hilton for an hour was in its way more edifying and encouraging than enduring more hateful rants from publicity hound Ann Coulter on MSNBC's "Hardball With Chris Matthews" the night before. Matthews was still discussing the Coulter appearance on his show last night. Next to Coulter, Paris Hilton is pure refreshment.

Of course either choice is akin to be given a choice in how you're tortured "Would you like to be waterboarded or have your fingernails torn out?"

WaPo: Today's Slipshod Reporting Update

Fri Jun 08, 2007 at 09:43:06 AM PDT

For about a month now, the WaPo political reporters have managed to not stick their respective foots in their respective mouthseses when conducting their "online discussions".

Ah, but eventually, one of em can't help him or herself.

Today's entry in the wankerific ranks of the Beltway Press Corpse: Jonathan Weisman.  The subject: Romney's big fat lie during the debate and the total lack of press coverage on it.

How Steve Gilliard Changed My Life

Tue Jun 05, 2007 at 05:17:22 AM PDT

Steve Gilliard changed my life.  Well, more accurately, he changed my wife's life which means, it changed mine.

But not in the way you might think.

And she never read a word he wrote.
